CREATE A PLAY IN A WEEK WITH HULL TRUCK THEATRE’S SUMMER SCHOOLS

We are running a series of interactive theatre-based summer schools over the holidays that will entertain children of all ages … so you don’t have to! If you're a parent or caregiver looking for something fun and engaging for children aged between 5 – 18 to get their teeth stuck into to keep boredom at bay, we have you covered at Hull Truck Theatre. The creative workshops have been designed for specific age groups based on Key Stage development, including ages 5 – 7 (KS1), 7 – 11 (KS2) and 11 – 18 (KS3-5). Each group will be designing a themed “play in a week” which will be performed to loved ones at the end of their week’s tenure. Late pick up is also available on selected workshops. Tom Saunders, Associate Director at Hull Truck Theatre, said: “Summer is always a joy at Hull Truck Theatre. I don't think there is a better way to stay active, creative and have fun during the holidays than participating in our summer projects. Participants always report having a great time, making friends and learning lots. In the case of children and young people, the summer holidays can feel incredibly long and breaking this up with something engaging and entertaining can really help.” For children who are looking for their first taster of theatre making, Play in a Week: 5 – 7 Years (Monday 11 - Friday 15 August, 9am – 3,30pm) is a project that will certainly entertain younger theatre lovers. With a week full of games, arts and crafts, and the opportunity to create a special piece of theatre to perform to family and friends, what better way is there to spend the holidays? For young people aged 7-11, who will have just finished school Years 3-6, Play in a Week: Bump in the Night (Monday 28 July – Friday 1 August, 9am – 3.30pm) will present the chance to experience making theatre, acting, writing and all things creative, ending the week with the opportunity to perform a brand-new play to an audience of parents, families and friends! For teenagers aged 11-18, who will have just finished school years 7-13, Play in a Week: Stories Around the Campfire (Monday 4 – Friday 8 August, 9am – 3.30pm) will see participants develop skills as a theatre-makers, create interesting characters and dialogue, learn key skills and perform a brand-new play to an audience of parents, families and friends at the end of the week. Joe Beckett, Drama Worker at Hull Truck Theatre, said: “Our summer schools are a good opportunity for young people to come together and make new friends and collaborate on a pierce of original theatre that they will create and premiere at the end of the week.” Each project is constructed to meet the requirements for each age group to suit their level. They create, write scripts and perform their own work in a welcoming and inclusive environment where children make friends and grow confidence. The Summer Schools are priced at £100 for the week.
