Jack Batley is the lynchpin of Beech Hill Bowling Club. He’s there day-in-day-out, come rain or shine, in his role as club groundsman with his pals Ted and Caroline. But he’s also earned the title of ‘Crown Prince’ and Jack is ready to play for all to defend his title against arch rival Ronnie Carlton.
Life goes on at Beech Hill Bowling Club, despite the fact that the world is changing fast. Summers are getting hotter, seas are rising, land is eroding and freak storms are sweeping across continents. However, some things will never change and come hell, Hull, or high water, Jack is determined to remain Beech Hill Bowling Club’s champion!
Green issues are at the heart of
this production which takes the audience across a 30 year period from
2007 to 2027. This is a thought-provoking,
up-to-the minute witty play, which is not afraid to tackle current issues
head on, signalling a new departure for Hull Truck’s Joint Artistic
Director and BAFTA Award winner, John Godber. A cast of six appear in John
Godber’s latest work, which is peppered with humour and a dose of
pathos. Sarah Parks, Rob Angell, Iain Rogerson, Martin Barrass, and Jack
Brady, step into their bowling shoes Hull’s own Hester Ullyart, who
appeared in John Godber’s BAFTA award-winning BBC 2 film Odd Squad
in 2005, makes her Hull Truck debut. Some tickets are still available for
this exciting production, but it is advisable to book early to avoid disappointment.
