Hull Truck’s Hat Trick of Education Projects Gets Underway!

Hull Truck Theatre’s Education Department is going from strength to strength as it enters an exciting productive phase in preparation for the move to Hull Truck’s state of-the-art purpose-built home in 2008. It has taken on 10 new staff members in the form of actors and a Theatre in Education (TIE) co-ordinator to enable it to simultaneously deliver a broad range of work in the city and the surrounding area.

A schools tour of the acclaimed John Godber play Bouncers is currently on the road in North and North East Lincolnshire and the Doncaster area. Its actors will perform a 35 minute version of the play and head workshops for pupils at participating schools. The tour and the workshops will also be available to Hull secondary schools.

At the same time Hull Truck Theatre has been invited to participate in a prestigious Digital Learning Project in partnership with Hull City Council and Kingswood College of Arts. Hull Truck will support the scheme through a TIE project which will address the issues of citizenship and immigration culminating in a series of performances.

Meanwhile regular Hull Truck Youth Theatre members will be rehearsing a stage adaptation of the George Orwell classic Animal Farm adapted by Peter Hall which is due to be performed by its young actors and musicians at the theatre in April.

Hull Truck’s Education Manager Karen Dainty commented: “We are thrilled to be in a position to expand our educational resources within the community and show how theatre can play a vital role in developing key strategies in schools and colleges. Our aim is to use theatre to support teachers in their bid to raise educational standards and broaden the learning experience for young people. ”
