It is 1995. 23 year–old Dave, an unemployed actor is in love with Sarah. He’s been obsessed with her through his teenage years and now they’re renting a house together as ‘mates’. But Sarah’s off to New York to study for a PhD. The only problem is Dave doesn’t want her to go. He desperately needs the pennies to treat her to a romantic break abroad. So he spends a month working alongside nutcase Melvin, at a scaffolding firm in Scunthorpe. Melv turns out to be man in his most primal form and for Dave it becomes the summer job from hell! Yet, the summer of love uncovers hidden depths and leads to friendships he never dreamed he would have….
Talented actors Fiona Wass ( Grown Ups BBC 3 and Macbeth Hull Truck), Matthew Booth (Emmerdale YTV and Christmas Crackers Hull Truck) and Emmerdale’s Marc Bolton -aka Dean Morris - who makes his Hull Truck debut – tell Dave’s tale and evoke memories of 1995 in this rapidly paced show. This brand new comedy written and directed by Hull Truck’s Associate Director Nick Lane takes the lid off unrequited love and relationships.
Nick adapted Hull Truck’s smash hits 1984 and Lady Chatterley’s Lover and most recently his zany adaptation of the children’s fairy tale Snow White, proved to be so popular that extra performances were added to the schedule as the show sold out before it opened! My Favourite Summer is a character-based comedy bursting with sardonic and surreal humour which is brilliant, bizarre and hugely funny
