New drama sessions to find Truckers of the future!
New drama sessions are being launched by Hull Truck Theatre – giving some of the area’s youngest residents chance to get involved with the famous company. The theatre already runs a very successful youth theatre open to young people aged 10 to 21, but is expanding to introduce new sessions for children aged seven to 10. The sessions are designed as a fun way to introduce children to drama skills – but may also uncover some Truckers of the future!
Youth theatre coordinator Lee Green said: “Hull Truck and its youth theatre are renowned for the quality of their work. This is a fantastic opportunity for local children to get involved with the company from an early age – whether they want a creative introduction to theatre, to learn storytelling skills or just a fun hobby. Places should be booked quickly!”
The new sessions for seven to 10-year-olds will begin with taster sessions every Saturday afternoon throughout June, before full courses start in September. All sessions will be held at Hull Truck’s rehearsal studios on Beverley Road. During the sessions, the young people will experience drama games and exercises, and perform short scenes. They will be able to improve their communication skills and have the opportunity to express themselves creatively in a fun and safe environment.
Hull Truck Youth Theatre has an impressive reputation. This year alone, its members have played to sell-out audiences at the Spring Street theatre with their production of Stags and Hens – and others took part in an innovative project in the courtrooms of Hull’s Guildhall. Some former youth theatre members have also gone on to pursue acting careers. Hull Truck Theatre’s education department is looking ahead to an exciting future, with the opening of the new theatre in spring 2009 giving opportunities for even more educational activities.
