Join Dave Windass’ lifeboat crew as they brave storms and high seas to go…
On A Shout
Thursday 24 January – Saturday 16 February 2008

It’s the depths of winter - the wind is howling and rain is lashing down, and that’s just inside Hull Truck Theatre. For upcoming production On A Shout tells the story of an East Yorkshire lifeboat crew and the dangers they face on every mission. Dramatic sound, lighting and other visual effects will be used to create the atmosphere of high seas and heroic rescues, combining for a truly spectacular evening’s theatre.

On A Shout follows the lives of crews past and present at ‘The Point’, focusing on coxswain George (Edward Peel) and his colleagues – cocky Cooky (Richard Standing), Portuguese (David Barrass), studious Dobbo (Matthew Stathers) and their first female member Jo (Laura Doddington). The action, directed by Gareth Tudor Price, follows the brave crew on ‘shouts’, but also looks deeper at the effects of life at sea; the friendships formed and lives lost.

On A Shout is the latest play by Dave Windass, who attracted full houses with his play about Hull rugby legend Clive Sullivan. As On A Shout also tackles local subject matter, it is expected to be another huge hit with Truck audiences. The play is also supported by the RNLI. On A Shout’s launch coincides with the charity’s main fundraising event of the year, SOS Day, and Hull Truck will be supporting the charity with displays and collection boxes.

This is a great way to see an heroic RNLI crew in action – from the comfort of a theatre seat!
