HULL TRUCK TO STAGE WORK OF NINE NEW WRITERS!
Hull Truck Theatre is showcasing the work of nine new writers at its first
ever PlayWrite Festival 07 from 26th -28th June which will be presented as
rehearsed readings.
Associate Director Nick Lane and Literary Development Manager Steven Jon
Atkinson are currently selecting six writers from the theatre’s prestigious
PlayWrite Course, from the 18 - 28 year-olds class and the 29 plus group.
The remaining three will be made up of chosen dramatists who attended Hull
Truck’s ‘constructing a script’ classes at the recently
held National Student Drama Festival which took place in Scarborough. The
plays will embody the Wilberforce 07 themes of Pride, Freedom, Belief and
Change. They will be directed by Nick and Steven and will be performed
by professional actors.
“It is the opportunity for the writers to explore their skills as dramatists. We will be looking at things like how they write dialogue, if it flows freely, if their characters multi-role-play, what attention they pay to stagecraft and how it can be developed,” explained Nick.
“It is a quick creative response to different stimuli with brand new writers creating original material from conception to performance. All nine will be taken through the developmental process of working with a professional theatre. We hope it will act as a springboard,” said Steven.
The PlayWrite Festival presents a unique opportunity for Hull Truck audiences to see writers of the future in the making as they take their first steps to develop their careers. Booking is underway for the PlayWrite Festival which promises to be a creative and entertaining platform. Ticket prices are just £3.50 or £2.50 concessions.
