Bookings / more info
Hull Truck has netted EastEnders actor ‘Juley’ for its inaugural PlayWrite Festival which takes place at the end of June. Joseph Kpobie, who played wayward Juley Smith, Ruby Allen’s boyfriend and the brother of road sweeper Gus, will make his Hull Truck debut on 26th June.
The PlayWrite Festival which runs from 26th – 28th June will premiere three plays collaboratively written by nine new writers. The plays will be part of Hull’s Wilberforce 2007 commemoration and will embody the themes of Pride, Freedom, Belief and Change. Joseph, who also appeared as Steve in the film Dirty Pretty Things and as Mick Daniels in TV’s Grange Hill, will be joined by Matthew Booth who recently toured in Hull Truck’s My Favourite Summer and Amy Thompson who appeared in Sully.
The script-in-hand performances will be co-directed by Hull Truck’s Associate Director Nick Lane and Steven Jon Atkinson, the theatre’s Literary Development Manager. Audiences will be treated to seeing original work by aspiring playwrights, as they develop their careers in the field of theatre.
Steven Jon Atkinson said: “It’s wonderful that such an experienced actor like Joseph will be able to bring his expertise and talent to the festival and the work of new writers. He is very excited about working for Hull Truck. We’re delighted to welcome back Amy and Matthew who have worked here many times, and I feel we have the best possible combination of actors to showcase our brilliant new writers.”
Booking is well underway for the PlayWrite Festival with a bargain pass available for three shows for £9 (£6 concessions) or tickets for individual shows priced at just £3.50 or £2.50 concessions.
