BE A BARD AND LEARN TRUCK’S TRICKS OF THE TRADE!

Would-be playwrights age 29 and over are being invited to step into the Hull Truck spotlight. Places are still available for a 10 week PlayWrite course for older writers, which is due to start next month.

Literary Development Manager Steven Jon Atkinson, who is spearheading the development of new writing through weekly classes, explained rookie writers get the chance to learn about writing and working within the theatre industry.

One class for 18-28 year-olds is already underway with participants is going from strength to strength. Participants have received masterclasses from award-winning writers including Richard Bean (Up on Roof Hull Truck 2006) and Nick Lane, (My Favourite Summer Hull Truck February 2007 and touring).

Because Hull Truck Theatre is committed to championing new writing, the courses are designed to tap into local talent. Would-be writers from Hull and the East Riding are invited to submit an example of their work to Steven before a shortlist of candidates is drawn up.

Writers will learn the tricks of the trade from how to write a play to getting a commission. The work will involve looking at dramatic action, writing for different spaces, working with directors, and how to apply for funding. PlayWrite members will receive expert guidance, feedback and advice from Hull Truck’s artistic team including Joint Artistic Director Gareth Tudor Price and Associate Director Nick Lane.

The course begins on 20th March: click here for details of how to apply.
