Truck
stars on-board with RNLI’s SOS day
On A Shout: Thursday 24 January – Saturday 16 February 2008
Stars
of Hull Truck Theatre’s lifeboat crew-themed play On A Shout are
celebrating its launch by backing the RNLI’s SOS day appeal. A special
On A Shout guest night will be held this Friday (Jan 25) – the same as
SOS day, the RNLI’s major fundraising event of the year. To celebrate,
Hull Truck will welcome charity representatives, have set up an RNLI memorabilia
display and will be staging collections during the play’s run.
Cast member and former Coronation Street star Richard Standing said: “In researching our roles for the play, we visited the crew down at Spurn Point and it was great to learn more about the fantastic work that the RNLI does. Every time these crews go out, they are risking their lives – they do an incredible job. All the On A Shout team are happy to support the charity and would encourage everyone to give generously.”
The RNLI relies entirely on donations and cash raised on SOS day will help pay for crew training, lifeboats and lifesaving kit. Dave Steenvoorden, RNLI Coxswain at Humber Lifeboat Station, said: “'Everyone at the lifeboat station is delighted that the Hull Truck Theatre is putting on this play and bringing our world alive on stage. It's great they’re supporting us with some fundraising at the theatre and it's fitting that they're launching the play on SOS day. I'm sure the play will be a great success, and hopefully raise vital cash for the RNLI as well.”
On A Shout is a new play written by Dave Windass and directed by Gareth Tudor Price. The story spans 60 years and tells the ups and downs of life stationed on a bleak East Yorkshire peninsula. It has a top cast including familiar TV faces Richard Standing, Eddie Peel and David Barrass, along with Truck debutants Matt Stathers and Laura Doddington. Featuring dramatic staging, sound and visual effects, it promises to be a spectacular production.
