Since 1971, Hull Truck has been touring out of the back of a truck. This is how the company has made such a big name for itself nationally, and the majority of the theatre's income is now generated through its touring.

The high quality work and first class performances have been the backbone of Hull Truck and have helped the company to grow and grow. Not many theatre companies of that era can boast that they are still going strong and are still successful. The company has been awarded many accolades and drawn in audiences over and over again - i.e. some, Hull Truck Theatre Company was their first introduction to live theatre!

Our smash-hit 30th Anniversary Autumn 2007 tour of John Godber's Bouncers played to almost 20,000 people, during 63 performances accross the UK. Other recent touring highlights include our Spring 2007 tours of Nick Lane's world premiere comedy, My Favourite Summer and John Godber's caravanning classic, Perfect Pitch, as well as sellout tours of Lee Hall's acclaimed play Cooking With Elvis and Amanda Whittington's smash-hit comedy Ladies' Day (the sequel to which, Ladies Down Under, is now open to venue bookings for Autumn 2008 - click here for details)

Below is just a small selection of the feedback we have received to some of the venues accross the UK that we toured to over the years...

We feel privileged to host a Hull Truck Production. You can guarantee the highest standard of acting and staging.”
David Lavender, Director of Brighton Komedia

Hull Truck are among the most popular of Buxton’s regular visitors. John Godber’s feel for humour and pathos combines brilliantly with the company’s often simple but always effective visual style. People have come to love this combination – they know what to expect and it’s always top-notch. The last time Hull Truck were here, they signalled their arrival in style – on the first night, the whole audience was roaring with laughter within ten seconds of the curtain going up!”
Andrew Aughton, Buxton Opera House

“Hull Truck have been regular visitors to the Theatre Royal for some years now. The shows are a breath of fresh air at a time when much of what we are offered seems to be on the ‘classical’ side of the repertoire. There is a loyal and devoted audience for Hull Truck’s work and we only wish we could find more of the expertly produced and performed work that is the hallmark of this excellent company.”
Colin Blumenau, Theatre Director of Bury St Edmunds

“This is the third visit to the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough by Hull Truck. It’s very important to have a close and continuing partnership between these two extraordinary neighbouring theatres which gives our audiences the chance to see the newest work of not one but two of the country’s most popular playwrights.”
Amanda Saunders, Touring & Programming Manager, Stephen Joseph Theatre

" The visits of Hull Truck to Sheffield are always looked forward to with great enthusiasm by the theatres’ staff and audiences alike. They are the only visiting company who have played successfully in all three of our theatres. The company is a nation treasure.”

Graham Morris, Chief Executive, Sheffield Theatres

“Wakefield Theatre Royal and Opera House has had a long association with the company. This is an association that the theatre welcomes, most particularly now that there is a policy of developing the drama content of our programme. Indeed, Hull Truck’s role in aiding this process has been substantial with audiences being attracted to the theatre in ever increasing numbers”.
Murray Edwards, Theatre Manager,
Wakefield Theatre Royal & Opera House

“ We’re always delighted to welcome Hull Truck back to Greenwich. John Godber’s work is unique; he is able to speak to a very broad audience in a way that is thought-provoking, exciting and always very funny. And in a world full of self-indulgent ‘luvvies’, the Hull Truck performers are always pleasantly down-to-earth and approachable. Real theatre from real people!
Hilary Strong, Executive Director of Greenwich Theatre
