A romantic musical comedy

France, 1935.

A breadless village celebrates the arrival of a lovable baker and his much younger wife. But comic gossip about the unlikely couple evaporates when the local heartthrob whisks her away and the heartbroken baker shuts up shop and hits the bottle.

Left without bread again, the bickering villagers hatch a crazy plan to reunite the baker and his wife. But who will fall under the spell of the baker's special recipe for romance?

Based on the well-loved French film of the same name, The Baker's Wife is a hilarious and heartwarming musical packed with toe-tapping show stoppers and soaring melodies written and composed by Oscar-winner Stephen Schwartz, who is also responsible for Godspell and the worldwide smash hit Wicked.

To celebrate Hull UK City of Culture 2017, award-winning Hessle Theatre Company return to Hull Truck to present the Yorkshire premiere of this gem of a show, following acclaimed productions of Little Shop of Horrors, Into the Woods and the sell-out Sister Act.

As delicious and delightful as a fresh-baked baguette, even the coldest heart is sure to leave The Baker's Wife brimming with the warm glow of romance.
