Hull Truck Theatre is fully accessible, with:

  • Level access from the street to the Box Office, lower foyer, The Heron and Studio Theatre
  • Wheelchair lift access to all public areas
  • Designated wheelchair spaces in both theatres

If you have any access requirements, please inform the Box Office at the time of booking.


St Stephens Shopping Centre multi-storey car park has five blue badge parking spaces close to the lift which brings you out approx. 50 meters away from the main door. These spaces are situated at the opposite end of the car park to the entrance and charged at the normal rate. Parking is just £1 after 6pm. Access to the car park is from Canning Street via Portland Place, off Ferensway.

There are also five blue badge parking spaces to the rear of Hull Truck Theatre on Portland Street approx. 150 metres away from the main door. There are no time limits on these spaces.

Drop-off Point

There is a drop off point 20 metres from the main door on Ferensway.

Accessible Seating

If you require accessible seating or a companion ticket, please inform the Box Office at time of booking. Access tickets are not currently available online.

Captioned Performances 

Theatre captions are similar to television subtitles. The actors’ words appear on screens, placed next to the stage or in the set, at the same time as they are spoken or sung. Captions also include additional information such as speaker names, sound effects and offstage noises.

Audio Description

Whenever possible, Hull Truck Theatre productions have a designated performance that is professionally audio described and relayed through headsets, for blind and partially-sighted customers.

Touch Tours

Free touch tours are available prior to audio described performances of Hull Truck Theatre productions and should be pre-booked at the Box Office. These events are aimed at, but not exclusive to, visually impaired patrons.

Hearing System

An infrared hearing system operates in both auditoria – headsets are available from the Box Office.

Audio Intros

Audio intros describe some of the key visual elements of a production and are available after the first night of all Hull Truck Theatre productions and some visiting productions. They can be downloaded below and on the individual show pages of the website.

Accessible Performances

Some Hull Truck Theatre productions have a designated accessible performance which is specifically designed to welcome people who will benefit from a more relaxed environment. There is a relaxed attitude to noise and movement and some small changes made to light and sound effects.

Breastfeeding friendly

We are proud to be a breastfeeding friendly organisation as part of the Breastfeeding Friendly Award Scheme. Parents are welcome to breastfeed, bottle feed or express on the premises, and Hull Truck Theatre staff have been specially trained to offer parents any support they may need. Infant Feeding Mornings

We host regular Infant Feeding Mornings, supported by City Health Partnership and NHS iBreastfeed, running from 10am till 12pm on the first Saturday of every month. These are free drop-in sessions for parents-to-be and new parents to meet up with other families. Breastfeeding support staff from the Goodwin Volunteer Doula and Breastfeeding Peer Support Project are present to offer advice on infant and complementary feeding, as well as the early stages of parenthood.
