Edgy, fun and deliciously naughty, Soho Cinders celebrates London’s most colorful district and is set to get temperatures soaring. When downtrodden Robbie becomes romantically involved with engaged Mayoral candidate James Prince, his malicious step-sisters become the least of his problems! James and Robbie’s worlds collide forcing them to fight for their own fairy-tale ending in this hilarious, satirical twist on the classic Cinderella story.
The potent mix of politics, sex-scandals and true love come together in an ingenious musical with an infectious score that you’ll be humming long past the stroke of midnight!

Director Richard Foot says: This reworking of Cinderella mixes plenty of comedy with a few darker elements that will resonate with a modern audience. The characters are what brings this show to life and what attracted me to direct it; from the naively honest Robbie to the crass and comically crude sisters.

For Joe Spence and Christian Brodie, playing the lead roles of Robbie and James has been thoroughly rewarding.

Joe says: Robbie is a 21st century teenager growing up in the modern world, he's a real, breathing person. To play such a complex believable character is always challenging. I feel I am not only performing a play but representing a whole community that I'm happy to be a part of.

Christian continues: I was honoured to be cast in the role of James Prince as it is such an exciting and varied role to portray as an actor. Despite the show being based on a traditional fairy tale, Stiles and Drewe have turned these stereotypes into gritty ‘real’ people, dealing with issues that many in today’s society face. It is by far the most challenging and contemporary project I have been a part of and I cannot wait for Hull audiences to see what really happens on ‘old Compton street’.

For Musical Director Ian Appleyard it’s been a joy working on this project: I’m absolutely loving working on this score – it’s full of infectious melodies and catchy, energetic songs, all with lush poppy orchestrations which will hopefully leave the audience whistling and toe-tapping for a long time!

‘Hessle Theatre Company habitually puts out top notch productions.’
