Theatre of Sanctuary

Hull Truck Theatre is hoping to be recognised as a Theatre of Sanctuary. Highlighting the theatre’s commitment to showing solidarity to and welcoming those seeking sanctuary in our city and region.

We passionately believe in the transformative power that theatre can have in people’s lives and its ability to bring people together from different walks of life. We hope that by working closely with sanctuary seekers we will become part of their community and they will become part of ours.

Our core offer to Sanctuary Seekers from April 2024 onwards is:

  • Reduced price and free tickets offered to sanctuary seekers though partner organisations.
  • Free/funded tickets for Sanctuary Seeker Families to every Great Adventures in each school half-term. At least one Great Adventures touring to Open Doors each financial year.
  • 10 free/funded places in our Youth Theatre provision for children aged 7 to 18. These spaces become available every September and April in the year and will be offered via partner organisations and schools.
  • Commitment to continue hosting the Refugee Council’s Conversation Café.
  • A key partner in our community engagement provision for Sanctuary Seekers is Open Doors Hull (open-doors.org.uk) who support us in work with sanctuary seekers.
