Beat The Odds

We are working alongside groups from Hessle Road Network, Routh 1 Youth Centre, and St Michael’s Youth Project and others, to explore what inspires people to exceed their own expectations. Participants of all ages have been painting positivity placards and writing stories about their achievements. The positivity placards painted by community members feature inspirational and encouraging messages, or other items that make members feel happy or motivated. Placards are painted by community members of all ages and all creative abilities as part of a fun and mindful exercise. The writing workshops offer participants the opportunity to reflect on a time in their lives when they achieved something or overcame a barrier to improve their, or somebody else’s, life. Participants from other community groups will also share their stories of accomplishment to highlight the success and triumphs within Hull’s communities. The positivity placards will form a display in the theatre throughout the run of Lone Flyer, 7 – 30 October, while the stories will be compiled into a zine, which will be handed out when community participants come to see the show.
