Come and PLAY at Hull Truck Theatre's Family Open Day 2023
05 Jun 2023 | Press Release
Hull Truck Theatre and the Albemarle Music Centre are once again opening their doors to host a FREE Family Open Day on Saturday 17 June, 11am – 4pm. Audiences and members of the local community will be invited to see what really goes on behind the scenes of both working venues. There will also be a full programme of family friendly activities taking place at Hull Truck Theatre, themed around the world of PLAY. Family members of all ages can explore Hull Truck Theatre and experience how a show comes to life. They’ll be invited to get involved with sound and lighting demonstrations and see the backstage theatre space on tours. Those who are interested can wait in the wings or go onstage to get an actor’s view of the auditorium. Other free activities such as arts and crafts, face painting, soft play, giant games and a photobooth with costumes will also be available – so there’s something for the whole family to enjoy! Tom Saunders, Associate Director at Hull Truck Theatre, said: “Sharing backstage secrets and running creative activities with our local communities is always very exciting, especially when we are welcoming people who have never visited the theatre before. The theme of this year’s Family Open Day is PLAY and the day will be full to the brim with fun. We’re hoping this theme will encourage people to connect with each other through experiencing enjoyable activities and entertainment, whether presented by us or created by visitors themselves. We are looking forward to being creative and spending the day together with everyone who wishes to join us.” Visitors will be able to participate in a Storytime session led by local Hull actor Jack Fielding. As well as being an actor, Jack is a professional performer, theatre maker and gifted story-teller. Hull Truck Theatre’s award-winning caterers ‘Shoot The Bull’ will provide delicious cakes, snacks, teas and coffees, creating the perfect environment to socialise and share this unique day out with friends and family. Visitors will also be given the chance to enter a special prize draw to win tickets for the theatre’s Christmas 2023 production, Pinocchio by taking part in Hull Truck Theatre’s ‘Passport’ challenge. The Albemarle Music Centre will be putting music at the heart of their activities with the added bonus of cake and refreshments from their Friends Association. James Dickinson, Head of Hull Music Service at The Albemarle Music Centre said: “Everyone at The Albemarle Music Centre is delighted to be working with our partners and neighbours Hull Truck Theatre on the Family Open Day. These are such fantastic events for families to experience the music centre - many for the first time!” There is no booking in advance required, unless you’d like to arrange a free backstage tour, in which case you can book your place online: https://www.hulltruck.co.uk/whats-on/tours-conferences-hires/family-open-day-tour/ For full details about the day, please visit: www.hulltruck.co.uk/family-open-day-2023
