Introduction To… Theatre History

Learn more about the origins of theatre through this 6-week introductory course, designed specifically for adults aged 18+, led by Associate Director Tom Saunders.

Each week explore a different era in the history of theatre, starting with Ancient Greece and running right up to modern day. Each 2-hour session will involve a mixture of reading extracts, discussion and creative exploration.

Tom Saunders is Associate Director at Hull Truck Theatre where he leads the Creative Learning department which works to inspire a lifelong love of theatre in children, young people and adults across the city.

For Hull Truck Theatre, he has directed Rapunzel, Guts! The Musical by Maureen Lennon, The Dutch Dash (Hull Truck Young Creators), Princess and The Frog, The Houses Are Sinking (and the adults don’t care) by Josh Overton, A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, Jack, Mum & The Beanstalk by Sam Caseley, What Not To Do (Hull Truck Young Creators), Hull & High Water by Janet Plater, TEN by Ellen Brammar, Lydia Marchant, Josh Overton and Morgan Sproxton (Hull Truck Young Company), Miracle on The Humber by Sam Caseley and Maureen Lennon (digital shorts in association with KCOM), Consequences: A Humberside Soap Opera (co-created with a team of actors, writers and young people from schools across Hull) and co-created Tortoise & The Hare (schools and community tour.)
